THE GHAT OF THE ONLY WORLD (meaning of the title)
AGHA SHAHID ALI.
A person who is very joyful and jubliant, he is suffering from brain tumour as well as cancer. he is basically from kashmir but settled in New York.
He made a request to Amitav gosh, that when he died, Amitav gosh should write something about him.
As we have seen in the chapter " THE SUMMER OF THE BEAUTIFUL WHITE HORSE " uncle Khosrove after losing his homeland became physco because he loved his homeland deep from the core of his heart, and the love a chaste one. and once he also remarked " i spit on money, if i get my homeland back ". shahid was also experiencing such a kind of pain, after lossing his homeland Kashmir, but he didn't show in his behaviour but through his pen, as all his poems are mainly based on "death & Kashmir". He was also suffering from killer diseases. just imagine a prson who is suffering from cancer as well as brain tumour. just keep yourself on place of him and think. the soul of the body would be irritated and would not be able to live up.
if we just divide shahid's name sha+hid. sha means witness of something and hid means hiding something, so he was. he witnessed all the pains and remorse in his heart, but never let it come on the face as it was hidden by a waves of smiles. he had an ebulient personality.
Ghat verbally means the bank of a river and dead are cremated there. so according to me by saying that " i m at the ghat of the only world he means that he is almost dead and about to be cremated, but he sats only world because the way he seen the world was different, it was painful so he dosen't want anyone else to feel all these things.
